A CANCER DIAGNOSIS
CAN CAUSE WAVES
IN EVERY DIRECTION
We work to bring individuals, couples, and families coping with cancer back to calm waters, so they can focus on navigating cancer, not the mental challenges of a diagnosis.
OUR MISSION
Flatwater connects anyone touched by cancer with mental health therapists to help heal and navigate what lies ahead.
WHY FLATwater
We believe in the healing power of water and recognizing that a cancer diagnosis creates many waves and ripples in one’s life, we support those impacted by cancer in finding their “flatwater”.
We are dedicated to providing those diagnosed with cancer, their families and loved ones access to mental health therapy and family support.
Our values
Support
A cancer diagnosis comes with a wave — the fear, the logistics, the financial weight. Flatwater exists for the unspoken emotional toll of cancer. We don't focus on treatment or research—we clear the path to professional mental health therapy during the diagnosis, throughout treatment, and long after.
Community
Cancer touches far more than the person diagnosed—it ripples through families, friends, and caregivers. Belonging to the Flatwater community isn't about choice; it's built on a shared experience that ensures no one navigates the aftermath alone. We cultivate an open, inclusive space where everyone impacted by a diagnosis finds connection, understanding, and strength.
Impact
Mental health care directly improves treatment adherence and survival rates. We back our mission with a high-quality provider network, transparent funding, operational excellence, and clear, accessible care for anyone impacted by cancer at any stage.
A cancer diagnosis brings a myriad of emotions and feelings as well as an ongoing unexpected financial expense. Individuals can struggle to pay their rent or mortgage or even put food on the table and their employment can be affected because of the frequency of treatments. All of this combined often leads to worsening health outcomes and puts their mental health on the back burner.
Aware of the financial toxicity associated with cancer treatment, we seek to support those seeking mental health services for cancer-related needs residing in our Central Texas service area that would not otherwise have access to this care due to financial barriers.
We fulfill our mission by partnering with therapists in our community that seek to work with people touched by cancer. Our provider network consists of licensed psychotherapists (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PhD, and others) that specialize in trauma and cancer related issues, and that meet Flatwater standards.
We also collaborate with top cancer institutions and organizations in Central Texas to identify those in need of support within our community. This collaborative network includes, but is not limited to Texas Oncology, Breast Cancer Resource Center, and Wonders & Worries.
